Vita-man:  Well sure.  It's way to big to even fit into my mouth the way it is!

Abdul:  Bingo.  It's the same with the food you eat.  The digestive process breaks the food down into smaller and smaller pieces until it's small enough to be fed to your cells.

Vita-man:  Wow!  I never thought of it like that.  So what stops it from being broken down?

Abdul:  Of course, lots of things can interfere with the digestion process.  For instance, hydrochloric acid is used in me to break up the food.  Did you know that hydrochloric acid is water soluble?

Vita-man:  No, I didn't, but what's that go to do with anything?

Abdul:  If you eat a meal very high in fat, the fat coats everything and then the hydrochloric acid can't soak into the food, so that food misses a very important step in the process.

Vita-man;  Kinda like missing the third grade, you miss so much information that you can never catch up.

Abdul:  Exactly Vita-man.

Vita-man:  You talk about acid and powerful enzymes.  You must really be tough if those things don't hurt you.

Abdul:  I'm pretty tough, but I'm also coated with mucous that protects me.

Vita-man:  Then how do you get ulcers if you're protected  like that?

Abdul:  That's another story Vita-man.

Vita-man:  Well, then what about heartburn?  Is it really the heart that's burning?

Abdul:  No.  I guess people call it that because the pain is where people think their hearts are.

Vita-man:  Then what IS heartburn?

Abdul:  It's a common problem caused by irritation in the esophageal area because of acidic stomach contents that re-enter the esophagus.

Vita-man:  Huh?

Abdul:  Stomach acid backs up into the bottom part of your throat!

Vita-man:  Oh… why didn't you say so?

Abdul:  I did.

Vita-man:  What advice can you give us this holiday season when we're bound to over-do?

Abdul:  Well, if you must I'd advise you to take some additional food enzymes, and if you're eating a heavy meal, with lots of protein, you should use some PDA … uh… that's Protein Digestive Aid and it wouldn't hurt to use a protein-specific enzyme.

Vita-man:  Different enzymes?  I thought there were just enzymes period!

Abdul:  Oh no, there's different enzymes for each type of food we eat.  If you are eating a high fat meal or if you've had your gall bladder removed, you could use some lipase enzymes.  Or if you're eating a lot of dairy, then you could take some lactose enzymes to help you digest milk products.

Vita-man:  That's amazing.  I didn't know that.  Are there more?

Abdul:  Oh yes, just ask your local Herb Specialist, they'll be glad to tell you more.

Vita-man:  Well, I see that we're out of time.  Thank you so much for coming today Stomach, it's been very enlightening.

Abdul:  Thanks for having me, and try to take it easy this holiday season., you only have ONE stomach you know!

Abdul:  Not very many folks do, but when you think of something real good to eat, what happens?

Vita-man:  Well, let me think … ah… my mouth starts watering!
