Vita-Man: Welcome to this issue of The Herb School Gazette Stomach. I'm so glad that you could come this month. Abdul: Thank you for having me Vita-man. By the way, my name is Abdul. This is the time of year that people misuse and abuse me the most and I'm thrilled to be able to talk to the folks before the Christmas "Goodie Binge" begins. Vita-man: Well I must say that I thought you'd be larger. Abdul: I am small now. When I'm empty, as you can see, I'm not much larger than a large sausage. But I can get very large, especially after you eat a very large meal. Vita-man: Where are you located in the body? Abdul: Thanks for asking. I'm actually in the upper portion of the abdominal cavity, just under the diaphragm. Lots of folks think that I'm below the waist. That's the place they clutch when they think I'm hurting them, but that's the GUT, not the stomach. Sometimes I get a bum rap, you think it's me, but really it's the colon! Vita-man: So, you're where all the food I eat ends up, huh? Abdul: No. In fact, I'm just a way-station in the digestive process. Vita-man; Really? Abdul: Yes, actually digestion starts with the senses. Vita-man: What do you mean? Abdul: Sight, sound, smell … even memory. Vita-man: I didn't know that! Abdul: Not very many folks do, but when you think of something real good to eat, what happens? Vita-man: Well, let me think … ah… my mouth starts watering! Abdul: Exactly!
