What is this strange new thing called AROMATHERAPY? Like, I'm supposed to just smell something and my body will change? …. Like… Sure. This may surprise you, but most of you have already experienced "AROMATHERAPY." How many of you have gotten a headache from spending some time in a freshly painted room? THAT'S AROMATHERAPY! Of course, that's a negative example of aromatherapy, but it does prove that something can happen to your body when you smell something. How is this possible? Well, the membranes in your nose provide a great delivery system for all sorts of things. There's a narcotic pain-killer that doctors prescribe that is in the form of a nose spray. This stuff gets into the blood stream quick, and without being exposed to the digestive system first. Remember the children's story of Ferdinand the Bull? He was big and fierce looking, but all he wanted to do was to sit in the fields and smell the flowers. Smelling the flowers made him happy and gentle, apparently Ferdinand knew what he was doing! Your skin is more than simply a covering for your body. Aside from it's being your largest eliminative organ, things put directly on the skin penetrate and get into your system without going through the digestive system. This is called a trans-dermal delivery . Nature's Sunshine Products' PRO-G-YAM cream is designed for this type of delivery to your body. When you understand how readily substances can get into your body through you skin and by inhalation, you start to think about the environment in a different way. If you run barefoot through the grass in your yard, and it's been sprayed with a poison to kill fleas you might as well be drinking that stuff! Whether you can smell something or not, most things give off vapors of some kind. Consider carbon monoxide. It's a deadly gas that is odorless; you can't see it or feel it or smell it, but it's deadly. The nice thing about essential oils is that they do have an odor, usually a pleasant one and the other nice thing is that they are safe to use as directed. |
